Domestic weapon was influential on the course of the war.
This was stated by Vladyslav Belbas, CEO of “Ukrainian Armour”, in an interview with the French newspaper “Le Monde”.
“In fact, our weapon determined the course of the war. The “Stugna” stopped Russian armoured columns from approaching Kyiv, the “Bogdana” (with the French “Caesar”) drove the Russians off Zmiinyi Island, and the “Neptune” missiles sank the cruiser “Moskva”. These were three key moments that raised our competetive spirit,” Belbas confirmed.
According to him, the negative background noise around the Ukrainian defence industry is connected with high expectations.
However, there are a number of problems that hinder the development of the Ukrainian defence sector. In particular, according to the CEO of “Ukrainian Armour LLC”, one of the constraints is the lack of long-term planning.
“There are still no three-year contracts, even though it is foreseen by law. Today, we have only a one-year horizon, which does not allow us to coordinate the production cycle with suppliers to operate at full capacity,” he explains.
Belbas also noted that the situation with the State Audit Service of Ukraine, which accuses Ukrainian defence companies of making illegal profits, has not yet been resolved despite all the steps taken by the Parliament, Government and the Ministry of Defence, and this also has a negative impact on the development of the domestic Military Industrial Complex.
