21.12.2019

Yesterday, December 19, 2019, at the Test and Demonstration Range “AvtoKrAZ” began official comparative tests of new and upgraded models of automotive and armored vehicles. The event was held by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to determine the acceptability of equipment that will be purchased for the Ukrainian Army.

All Ukrainian manufacturers of military equipment were invited to participate. In fact, only three companies provided trial products.

The objects of the demonstration on the first day of testing were a specialized armored vehicle “Varta” from LLC “Ukrainian Armor”, armored combat vehicle “Dozor-B” of Kharkiv design Bureau for mechanical engineering. of A. A. Morozov and modernized Ukrainian-Polish armored vehicle Oncilla from LLC “Scientific and production company “VK Systems”.

At the initial stage, there was a demonstration of individual technical characteristics of the samples, all cars passed the control weighing, with the results of which they were reloaded to the full weight declared by the manufacturers.

During the tests the demonstration samples had to overcome a number of major obstacles:

“Sandy field” with width 6 m, length 34 m, depth of sand layer 1 m to check the patency of the vehicle in the conditions of passage of loose sands: “VARTA” – passed with the 1st  attempt; “Dozor-B” – passed with the 1st attempt; Oncilla-passed with the 1st attempt.

“Side slope” with a transverse slope of 20° and a length of 15 m to test the stability of a moving vehicle to a side rollover: “VARTA” – passed from the 1st attempt; “Dozor-B” – passed from the 1st attempt; Oncilla-passed from the 1st attempt.

“Basin” is designed for testing vehicles on the fordability – ford depth of 0.8 m: “VARTA” – passed with the 1st attempt; “Dozor-B” – passed with the 1st attempt; Oncilla-passed with the 1st attempt.

“Vertical wall” controls the ability to overcome a large single barrier by the vehicle: “VARTA” – a height of 0.5 m taken from the 1st attempt; “Watch-B” – a height of 0.4 m taken from the 2nd attempt; Oncilla-a height of 0.4 m taken from the 5th attempt.

“A hill with a height of 10 m”:

  1. the site with a slope of 12% for tests of braking system of road trains: “VARTA” – is passed from the 1st attempt; “Dozor-B” – is passed from the 1st attempt; Oncilla – is passed from the 1st attempt.
  2. section with a slope of 20% for testing the braking system of single vehicles: “VARTA” – passed with the 1st attempt; “Watch-B” – passed with the 1st attempt; Oncilla-passed with the 1st attempt.
  3. section with a slope of 60% (31°) for testing cars to overcome the margin rise: VARTA” – passed on the 1st attempt; “Dozor-B” – not passed; Oncilla – not passed.

“The railway embankment” with a height of 0.7 m with a fragment of the railway track; the height from the base of the embankment to the top of rails is 0.9 m. The construction checks passability in difficult road conditions, and tests the frame, suspension and axles of the vehicle: “VARTA” – passed with 1st attempt; “Dozor-B” – declined to overcome the obstacle; Oncilla – passed with the 2nd attempt.

«”VARTA” overcame all obstacles without remarks and once again proved the declared indicators of passability and tactical and technical characteristics – noted the Director of the company “Ukrainian Armor ” Kuzma Alexander Aleksandrovich. – It would be very interesting to watch the competition of more samples, and therefore it’s pity that other manufacturers refused to participate in the demonstration. With this step, they actually confirmed their inability to compete head-to-head”.

For “VARTA” such tests are taken not for the first time. To your attention the video of tests on the Test and Demonstration Ground “AvtoKrAZ” in July, 2016: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYOKBmnO5Hw
